A translator's daily tasks involve much more than simply knowing two languages. They perform specialized duties across various fields (legal, medical, technical, literary, etc.):

1. Text Conversion and Fidelity: Accurately translating written materials (documents, websites, software strings, manuals, reports, books, etc.) while preserving the original meaning, style, and tone.
2. Terminology Research: Conducting extensive research on industry-specific vocabulary and jargon to ensure consistency and precision in highly specialized fields like medicine, law, or engineering. They often maintain and update personal glossaries and terminology databases.
3. Cultural Adaptation (Localization): Adapting idiomatic expressions, cultural references, weights, measurements, and formats so the text is appropriate and natural for the target audience.
4. Proofreading and Editing: Meticulously reviewing and editing the final translation for grammatical, spelling, punctuation, and typographical errors, ensuring the highest quality before delivery to the client.
5. Project Management: Managing deadlines, workload, and communication with clients or project managers, often balancing multiple ongoing translation projects simultaneously.
6. Technology Use: Utilizing Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT) tools (like Trados or memoQ) to improve speed, ensure consistency across large projects, and manage translation memories.
